Explore High Dynamic Range and its fundamentals with Sony

Asia Pacific, 22 December 2016 – As the industry is shifting to 4K/Ultra High Definition (UHD) in content creation, image reproduction achieves an impressive new reality with the combination of High Dynamic Range (HDR) and wide colour gamut (WCG). Further, High Frame Rate (HFR) shooting and deeper bit depth are key elements for the next generation of high quality image production.

An end-to-end HDR production system can deliver an HDR image from the high-light portion right through to the dark portion. With HDR mirroring the effects of the human eye, viewers can experience camera-captured HDR, with a wide colour gamut images that can be transmitted and displayed faithfully. This is achieved recently with the worldwide broadcast of the Ceremony of the Closing of the Holy Door in 4K HDR, where Sony has once again succeeded in engaging viewers at an emotional level never seen before.

As a thought leader in the area of HDR production, Sony collaborates with Mocha Chai Laboratories to conduct a workshop that explores HDR and covers the fundamentals – Acquisition, Workflow and Delivery:

Further, two renowned cinematographers – Kelvin Chew and Teck Sian Lim – will also share their experience and thoughts about HDR production:
Kelvin Chew

A multimedia artist and cinematographer, Kelvin’s work are often a confluence of film, photography and interactive technologies. He approaches new media methodologies through the lenses of experimental multimedia design and adopts the same cross discipline approach to his practice as a cinematographer.

Teck Siang Lim
Formally trained in the discipline of filmmaking, Teck Siang is currently pursuing his career in professional cinematography. Notably, he is known for his knowledge of narrative film techniques and expertise in cinematographic technology in both commercial and independent works and has lensed projects for multiple top and emerging Singapore directors.
